This series comprises correspondence and reports of the executive secretary in charge of deaconess work for the Lutheran Church in America's Board of College Education and Church Vocation, the board that oversaw work of the deaconess community. The records are from 1963-1975 with the bulk dating from 1963-1973. Included in this series is correspondence of executive secretaries Sister Anna Ebert, Sister Louise Burroughs, and Sister Joan Henke. Subject matter of the correspondence includes thank-you notes, recognition of service, deaconess education, merger of deaconess communities, reduction in the size of the board of directors of the Baltimore Lutheran Deaconess House and School, and personnel matters, notices of meetings, deaconess salaries and taxes, and diaconial relationship with the Lutheran Deaconess Association. Most of the correspondence is with members of the board of directors. . This series also includes one folder with two deaconess community progress reports sent to Dr. Louis Almen, executive secretary of the BCECV from Sister Louise Burroughs. Of note, correspondence of the executive secretaries to individual deaconesses is located in each deaconess's personnel file.
